Geneviève Zubrzycki

Governance Board Member

Geneviève Zubrzycki is a Professor of Sociology and the Director of the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on nationalism and religion; collective memory and the politics of commemorations; as well as the place of religious symbols in the public sphere.

Zubrzycki’s most recent book, Resurrecting the Jew: Nationalism, Philosemitism, and Poland’s Jewish Revival, will appear this summer with Princeton University Press. She has held visiting appointments at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris and at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences in Wassenaar.

Her team at the Weiser Center created a website featuring two interactive maps and an archive of testimonies. The website serves as a pedagogical tool and memorial to the victims of the war in Ukraine.
